Members should be able to demonstrate the following skills
before they take part in activities other than training.
Drill Displays
- A knowledge of all drill commands
- The ability to manoeuvre horse to drill commands
- The ability to work as part of a regiment,
- Keep lines and columns straight
- Maintain pace and distance
- Demonstrate co-ordination, timing and placing of movements
- Control horse with one hand incorporating;
- Control of pace
- Manoeuvring
- Drawing sword.
Taking the Field
- Demonstrate the skills needed to take part in a drill display
- Understand and follow battlefield orders and commands
- Show awareness of other members of the regiment
- Control horse with one hand and engage in combat
- Have a knowledge of safety and accident procedure
- Have a knowledge of the Society's safety requirements.
Engaging in Skill at Arms
- Demonstrate the skills needed to take part in a drill display
- Ride at rings with sword and pistol
- Ride at dummy with sword, pistol or other weapon.
Maintaining Mount
- Tack up, saddle, bridle and additional equipment
- Check fit and safety of tack
- Be aware of needs of mount;
- Water
- Food
- Tethering
- Interaction of mount with other horses and humans
- Any other information groom can provide concerning performance of mount,
e.g., medical conditions.
